Frequently Asked Questions
Is a free consultation enough?
Sometimes, although each legal issue may be unique, the consultation is a way for you to know your rights. Sometimes after the free consult, I may need your assistance with you providing more information in order to ensure that your choices provide you every alternative or the best solution. Other times I may need you to ask others for help because of the information you provide. Links are provided to free services for state, county and federal matters.
Do you handle all legal matters?
No, as no one knows every law or issue fully. The free consultation will provide you with options. Affordability is always our main goal in assessing your legal matter. I am a general practice attorney and that means I can handle a lot of matters. I do not handle matters past what the engagement letter provides and the terms for additional services must be in writing before proceeding with new issues that may occur during representation.
Can I retain you during the free consultation?
Maybe, we must do a conflict check and prepare a simple engagement letter prior to engagement for your legal matter. One of the reasons, is so there is no misunderstanding as to what I provide for what you state you are willing to pay.
Upon engagement, will there be hidden costs?
Sometimes, I can anticipate travel, court appearances, and general costs for services, however, not every cost may be known upon engagement. Every effort will be made to notify you of any unknown costs immediately.
Why do I need a signed agreement?
Engagement letters protect you and you should read them a few times and ask questions before signing so there is no misunderstandings as to what the service and the cost you will need to pay.
